I pretty much came out immediately to my corp (and our alliance while you're at it, ROFL). Have encountered a few real homophobes (and racists, and they were kicked out quickly enough), some who are uncomfortable with it (who nevertheless, I've established a neutral sort of camaraderie with), but majority simply don't care. :) As long as you pewpew and do your share of corp/alliance duties.
A lot of 'gay jokes' of course (that's a given), but I join in on that too. There is no real bad intent so I don't care. You'll go through life constantly angry if you take offense every time someone says "That's so gay!". It's not worth it. You'll know when someone is just goofing around or if someone really hates gays easily enough.
Also, with the added twist of knowing what I'm talking about when the joking becomes a wee bit gay, making straight guys squirm with embarrassment and twisting their panties is fun fun fun. ROFL (I mean... sheesh, some guys are worse than virgin catholic girls).
Par exemple:
Some 1337 guy smacktalking: "We're gonna **** you in the a**." Moi: "I thought you'd never ask. *wink wink*"
We have a total of about 3 gay people in our corp, but it's not an exclusively LGBT corp. It has never been an issue. And the funnier thing is that the guys who are the most accepting are from the US armed forces (and conversely the guys who most take offense from the fact that you're gay are 1337 14 year old yo-momma type wannabes).
I know of several exclusively LGBT corps. But... well... a corp founded on your sexual orientation doesn't really appeal that much to me (On another note... I wonder if there are all-female corps in Eve). Although I admit, I am curious what it would be like, I prefer something closer to the real situation in the real world where straights outnumber us 20 to 1. We have to learn to live with everyone else anyway. Peace, love, happiness, rainbows and all that hippie sh**... AND internet spaceships. LMAO
Anyway, eve doesn't really have a lot of REAL homophobes in it unlike most other games. Might be the higher required IQ for playing? Or it could also be that most real-life homophobes don't even know how to use satan's contraption...er computers anyway. ROFL. Heck, I came out to both my n00bcorps when I first started playing with eve, the Matari RUN and RMS (two trial runs before I bought an account) and have befriended several people there I still keep on my buddylist, along with discovering a few other gay and bisexual people. No tied me to a stake and set me on fire or something. It's internet spaceships, no one cares. (DISCLAIMER: The experience might be different if I came out at the Amarrian n00bcorps LOL, but I've never played Amarr so.. *shrugs*)
Also it's better if you 'come out' per se to your corpmates if you feel you have to at least temper down the 'gay jokes'. People act differently when they think the subject of their jokes is not anywhere around (and straights always assume everyone else is straight... go figure). And if they turn Fred Phelps on you, just leave the corp. I wouldn't want to stay in on a truly homophobic corp anyway. Just don't be too thin skinned that you'd demand everyone to stop mentioning 'gay this' and 'gay that'.
